Job Description:

Kelvin Timber is seeking an experienced Senior Trade Sales Representative to join our fast-paced, friendly, and dynamic team in Milngavie. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in the building merchants or trade industry, demonstrating excellent customer service skills and a proactive attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Customer Service: Greet, serve, and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner.
  • Communication: Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls, returning calls promptly and efficiently.
  • Product Guidance: Provide customers with advice and guidance on product selection tailored to their needs.
  • Quoting and Liaison: Prepare quotations and liaise with customers to ensure their requirements are met.
  • Order Management: Take orders for deliveries, coordinating with the transport team to ensure timely delivery.
  • Sales Procedures: Follow company procedures for sales and returns, ensuring all processes are completed accurately.
  • Payment Handling: Process cash and card payments, ensuring cash registers are balanced with receipts.
  • Complaint Resolution: Address and resolve customer complaints promptly and efficiently.
  • Special Orders and Returns: Manage special order items and follow up on returns to suppliers when necessary.
  • Stock Management: Conduct stock taking and stock checks regularly, keeping the counter clean, tidy, and well-merchandised.
  • Promotions and Displays: Stay updated with current promotions and update displays accordingly.
  • Health and Safety: Adhere to health and safety legislation and follow the instructions of trade counter supervisors.

Person Specification:

  • Experience: Minimum of one year’s experience in the building merchants or trade industry; trade counter experience required.
  • Customer Service: Exceptional customer service skills with a focus on building long-term customer relationships.
  • Workload Management: Ability to manage and prioritize a busy workload effectively.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Teamwork: Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively.
  • Compliance: Adherence to company health, safety, security, and privacy policies.
  • IT Skills: Proficient in using IT systems to manage sales processes and customer interactions.

Company Description: Kelvin Timber is a family-run Timber and Builders Merchant located in Milngavie & Hamilton, on the outskirts of Glasgow. Established in 1970, we have been delivering knowledgeable service to both trade and public customers.

Reports to: Store Manager

Location: Kelvin Timber – Hamilton
Salary: Discussed at interview stage (negotiable)

Working Hours: 7:30 AM – 4:15pm

What does it mean to be a Kelvin Timber Van Driver/Yard Operative?

 

We are seeking a helpful and adaptable individual to handle customer deliveries using our transit pickup van and assist in yard operations when necessary at our bustling timber and builder’s merchant branch in Hamilton.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of goods using the Company pickup van
  • Manual loading and unloading of delivery vehicles or operation of side-loader/forklift truck
  • Assisting customers with collections and verifying orders
  • Organizing stock in storage areas and conducting sorting and grading tasks
  • Fulfilling orders by picking and packing items
  • Maintaining cleanliness and tidiness in work areas and ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and procedures, including manual handling guidelines
  • Checking customer vehicles before departure to minimize stock losses
  • Addressing inquiries from commercial customers or the public
  • Undertaking any other duties considered reasonable within the job role

Requirements to join our team:

  • Minimum age of 21 (insurance requirement)
  • Possession of a full, manual driving license for at least 2 years (insurance requirement)
  • Preferably, no license endorsements (any endorsements must be disclosed during the application process)
  • Previous experience in multi-drop van driving
  • Prior experience in a Timber/Builder’s Merchant is advantageous, but comprehensive training is available for suitable candidates
  • Familiarity with warehouse operations and customer service
  • Awareness of health and safety protocols
  • Desirable (not essential): Sideloader and/or Forklift Truck (FLT) license

Availability for full-time work from Monday to Friday, with alternate Saturday mornings (8:00 AM – 01:00 PM)
